I needed to sing some different kinds of songs and I felt
Jeff Wayne was the right person to help me find them. We carefully
waded through literally hundreds of songs before we settled on
the tracks finally recorded. "Night Flight" is a group
album with me on acoustic and electric guitar along with some
of the best session musicians of the day, including Herbie Flowers,
Joe Partrifge, and Barry Desouza. It was recorded at the Threshold
Studios over a period of about four weeks. Sometimes Greg and
I disagreed about the direction of a song (my songs mostly) as
I was used to doing things my way with Tony Clarke and the Moodies,
but Jeff usually won. This was a kind of left field album for
me and I took the role of the singer/guitar player. Jeff is a
hard task master and the vocals had to be note perfect as well
as with feeling. I hope you enjoy this labour of love that should
have credited Jeff's name in the title with me.
